Matt Deighton

Frontman of 90s Acid Jazz band Mother Earth, one-time member of Oasis, and former guitarist in Paul Weller's 90s and 2000s band, Matt Deighton has built a catalogue of classic pastoral soul-folk solo albums that have drawn comparisons to Davey Graham, Nick Drake, John Martyn and Bert Jansch. He has played and recorded with Paul Weller, Dr Robert of The Blow Monkeys, Mick Talbot of The Style Council, and Chris Difford of Squeeze — and was briefly in Oasis when Noel Gallagher quit a European tour in 2000.

He assembled the band for Bill Fay's acclaimed comeback album Life Is People, playing lead guitar — a project that accidentally convinced him back into the studio for himself. His solo discography includes Villager, The Common Good, You Are The Healer, Doubtless Dauntless, and Today Become Forever, the latter partly produced by Ken Scott, the legendary engineer behind albums by The Beatles, Bowie and George Harrison.

In 2020, Sky Arts aired Overshadowed, a documentary spanning his entire musical career, featuring collaborators including Chris Difford, Bill Fay, Paul Weller, Marti Pellow and Carleen Anderson. A key member of the Monks Road Social sessions from the very first album, and an artist whose work sits at the spiritual centre of what Monks Road Records stands for.
