Arthur Melo
Arthur Melo is a singer, guitarist and composer from Belo Horizonte in Minas Gerais, Brazil — the state that gave the world Milton Nascimento and Lô Borges, and whose rich musical heritage runs deep in everything Melo does. He has been active on the Brazilian scene since 2016, releasing multiple albums, EPs and film soundtracks that explore bossa nova, tropicália, folk, psychedelia and beyond with the restless curiosity of an artist who studied film at university and approaches music with a director’s eye for atmosphere and detail.
His album Mirantes Emocionais — the title translating as “emotional viewpoints” — was released in 2024 on Wonderfulsound, produced by Kassim, who has worked with Erasmo Carlos and Caetano Veloso, and drew comparisons to the classic Clube da Esquina recordings of the 1970s. Reviewers called him “a dazzling alt-pop voice” and placed him among the most exciting Brazilian artists currently working.
He features on the Monks Road Social album Rise Up Singing! on the track “Easy Pickings” alongside Leah Weller — bringing a Brazilian warmth and melodic instinct to a collective that has always believed the best music happens when different worlds find common ground.
